Description
Arbanasy is a little village next to one of the biggest cities in Bulgaria, Veliko Turnovo (Great Turnovo). Veliko Turnovo was the capital of the Second Bulgarian kingdom (1185-1393), between the two slaveries- the Byzantine (1018-1185) and the Turkish(1393-1876/77).With its magnificent old-fashioned houses and narrow cobblestone roads now Arbanasy is one of the biggest tourist centers in Bulgaria.
This picture was taken in the yard of one of the museum-houses there. Of course it is not allowed to shoot in the house but outside there is no problem. I think the house is from 17th century or at least around that time. Sudden attacks were something usual for those centuries and that's why all the rich people's houses had these high solid-built stone walls (it is called duvar in bulgarian). There were also shutters and bars on every window and in this house there were even two toilets inside the house- one for men and one for women- which were used during the sieges.
This photo is old but I desided to post it because it's one of my favourites.
